Residential Units in Bulgaria increase
by 42 000 over five year period
As of December 31 2006, residential units in Bulgaria number about 3 728 554, according to data from the National Statistical Institute (NSI). Five years earlier, at the end of December 2001, the number of units in the country totaled 3 686 269.
Of the residential units numbered in the December 2006 study, 2 355 679 are located in urban areas, and 1 372 875 are in Bulgaria's villages. There are 486 homes per 1000 persons, according to NSI research.
The greatest number of residential units, 524 637, are located in the capital city of Sofia. Two-bedroom apartments make up the largest portion of these units, followed by three-bedroom and one-bedroom apartments. There are 2 129 014 residential buildings in Bulgaria, of which 757 661 are situated in cities.
